The Multipurpose Senior Services Program (MSSP) helps older adults successfully age in their own homes and avoid premature nursing home placement, at no cost to eligible participants.

MSSP began in 1977 with five sites in the State of California.* Today, there are 37 sites statewide that continue the mission, with Independence at Home administering the largest program in California.

Who is eligible for MSSP?

All clients must:

  • Be 65 years of age or older
  • Receive Medi-Cal with an approved aid code
  • Require assistance with at least two activities of daily living, including but not limited to: Bathing, dressing, mobility, and eating
  • Have a need for care management services
  • Live within Independence at Home's service area
  • Be willing to participate in care management phone calls and in-person visits

What are the benefits of MSSP?

  • Monthly contact with a registered nurse or social worker
  • Home visits (at least every three months)
  • Assistance with health insurance navigation
  • Ongoing support for older adults and caregivers
  • Client advocacy

What services are provided by MSSP?

Eligible participants may receive:

  • Chore and Personal Care Services
  • Meal Services
  • Resource Connection
  • Respite Care
  • Safety Equipment
  • Transportation
